WHAT IS AFFILIATE MARKETING?

As we discussed yesterday, affiliate marketing is really a subtopic of Internet marketing. Rather than owning a product or service to promote, you become the advertiser responsible for driving customers to the merchant’s web site. By doing so, you as the affiliate will earn a commission on any thing you sell. The benefit of being an affiliate is that you do not carry any inventory to support your promotions. That’s the merchant’s responsibility. For an affiliate, they are always looking for that niche product that customers must have. So where do you find that product? There are affiliate directories that have list of companies offering commissions for selling their products or services. Some of the affiliate networks that offer these products are Clickbank, Commission Junction, Share a Sale, Linkshare and Performics.

A great program that teaches you how to use different techniques as an affiliate marketer is "The Bum Marketing Course” which is offered on Clickbank.com. What the course shows you is how to create promotions to drive traffic to the merchant’s web site and hopefully purchasing the product. When purchased your assigned affiliate link is credited, thus you receive a commission. Now commissions can run any where between 10%to75%, depending on the product. Even the high-ticket products sold through Amazon and EBay offer commissions if you are an affiliate with those companies.

This sounds good but now we need to figure out how to drive traffic to these merchants’ web sites, and we’ll discuss those strategies on our next post. So after that you should be able to figure out how to start your own Internet business, which will be legitimate.
