As we discussed yesterday, affiliate marketing is really a subtopic of Internet marketing. Rather than owning a product or service to promote, you become the advertiser responsible for driving customers to the merchant’s web site. By doing so, you as the affiliate will earn a commission on any thing you sell. The benefit of being an affiliate is that you do not carry any inventory to support your promotions. That’s the merchant’s responsibility. For an affiliate, they are always looking for that niche product that customers must have. So where do you find that product? There are affiliate directories that have list of companies offering commissions for selling their products or services. Some of the affiliate networks that offer these products are Clickbank, Commission Junction, Share a Sale, Linkshare and Performics.
A great program that teaches you how to use different techniques as an affiliate marketer is "The Bum Marketing Course” which is offered on Clickbank.com. What the course shows you is how to create promotions to drive traffic to the merchant’s web site and hopefully purchasing the product. When purchased your assigned affiliate link is credited, thus you receive a commission. Now commissions can run any where between 10%to75%, depending on the product. Even the high-ticket products sold through Amazon and EBay offer commissions if you are an affiliate with those companies.
This sounds good but now we need to figure out how to drive traffic to these merchants’ web sites, and we’ll discuss those strategies on our next post. So after that you should be able to figure out how to start your own Internet business, which will be legitimate.

METHODS TO CREATE NEW BLOG TRAFFIC
As we discussed in our last post we identified what affiliate marketing is, and how your blog site can be used to drive traffic to a merchant web site to create sales. But the key question was: How do we create traffic to our blog and direct that traffic to the merchant site? The affiliate link assigned to you by the merchant will take care of the traffic to their site. The main objective is to figure out how do we create the front load traffic to our blog?
As many of us have relatively new blogs (less than 60 days old) without a lot of rich and relevant content, there are several methods if used properly that can create almost instant traffic to your blog site:
1. Utilization of Article Directories allows you to write enticing articles to off site directories. Submit your articles promoting a merchants product to article directories is a good way to get back links to your site. It's also a great way to get traffic. Try using sites like Squidoo.com or Enzine Articles.com as they have their readership who may be looking for the topic your blog is focusing on. If you write a compelling article, people will visit your blog.
2. Utilize RSS Feeds: be sure to submit your blogs' RSS Feed to the most popular web feed services. This will create web traffic for your blog by focusing on the low competition keywords in your title and content. Some of the post popular feed site are Search 4 Rss.com, Feedage.com and Feedsubmitter.com.
3. Utilize Social Bookmarking as these services allow you to promote your blog site based on tag's (keywords) and a short content description of what the site is trying to appeal to. People see your description and will want to visit your site. The top services are Blog Catalog.com, Stumbleupon.com, MyBlogLog.com, Technorati.com and Del.icio.us.com.
4. Utilize Social Networking sites such as Facebook.com, Twitter.com, MySpace.com, Google Groups.com and Mylot.com. When you build your profile in these sites you are connecting with people, creating partnerships which will afford you the opportunity to promote your blog and products.
There are a couple of resources that link these methods together and are recommended for anyone who is starting a internet marketing online business.
Small Business Traffic Secrets is a new E-Book course that teaches small business owners how to create additional web site traffic.
Super Affiliate Hand Book is a E-Book written by know super affiliate Rosalind Gardner and discusses how to start your own affiliate marketing business and includes subjects and tips on how to increase your blogs' web traffic.

BLOGS VS WEBSITES
What are the differences between blogs and websites?
So far we've discussed or learned what affiliate directories are and how they can help your affiliate links. We've also discussed ways to get traffic to these links. Many internet marketers use different landing pages to get traffic to their affiliate links. The two most popular mediums are websites and blogs which both do the same thing, create traffic for your links.
Do you understand now what the differences are between the two? Websites can be surely advantageous to you as they involve web design and will give you a professional look. They also can be expensive, if you don't do your home work. There is a cost for web hosting and domain maintenance and general up keep of the site. However, we have found an affiliate program that offers free hosting and website design and building. Site Rubix is offered through a membership program at Wealthy Affiliates.com and provides a total tutorial of how to build a website for free. It was develop in order to make website development easier, efficient and easy to use without having to know HMTL, template design or even menu structure. Take a look now at
Site Rubix.
Using blogs can be an excellent alternative to websites as they are generally free and easily quick to set up. They basically can achieve the same results as websites: can be monetized, add money pages and can be search engine optimized which affords you more traffic. There are several sites that offer free blogs, but the two most popular because of their simplicity are WordPress.com and Blogger.com. However, don't limit yourself to these choices as there are several free sites available, just do some shopping around and choose what best fits your needs. As you become more versed in your internet knowledge managing multiple blog sites is not unheard of. Although a lot of work is involved to maintain these sites, they give you the availability to create multiple landing pages very quickly, thus providing more revenue streams.
As you gain more knowledge in the online business community, you could use both blogs and websites as a basis of a sound internet business. Ultimately, increasing your ability to create even more revenue streams. But starting off, generally using blogs appear to be the simplest and most efficient way to begin your internet journey.

The nuts and bolts of a RECORD RUN
With each of his recordbreaking runs, Usain Bolt is inching closer to athletic immortality. Forgive the cynicism; if the Jamaican ends his career without a doping slur, he would have cemented his place in the history of track events as the person who expanded the boundaries of human capabilities. Many super-human running stars
including a certain black American who made the 1936 Berlin Olympics his own have graced the track. But Bolt appears to be the real deal for the ease with which he
singes records. The athletic world hasn’t seen a more compelling package of efficiency and entertainment. Michael Johnson used to run and break records with predictable regularity but the American himself is in awe of the Jamaican for whom raising the bar in style has become a habit. Bolt has brought fun to thesprint after Ben Johnson’s pharmaceutical effort in the 1988 Seoul Olympics had taken it away from
the foundation of all sporting disciplines. Bolt started off as a 200m specialist. Only when he broke the 100m world record on May 31 last year, did the Jamaican’s name make it to the probable list of Beijing winners in the short sprint. The Bird’s Nest, the iconic athletic stadium in the Chinese capital, belonged to Bolt on August 16, 2008, as he set a record of 9.69 seconds on his way to gold in the 100m. In a rare coincidence, the fun-loving Jamaican has obliterated his record on the same date
(August 16) a year later at Berlin. The progression of the 100m record over the years presents an interesting study. When Jesse Owens stopped the clock at 10.3
seconds for a gold medal at the 1936 Olympics, few would have envisaged that it would take another 32 years for someone to go under 10 seconds. American Jim Hines
recorded the first electronic sub-10 100m (9.95 seconds) in Mexico on September 14, 1968. Until Bolt’s majestic run in Berlin on Sunday, the 100m record was never bettered by 11 hundredths of a second. Bolt’s 6’5” frame doesn’t make him the best of starters. Even on Sunday, he was only the sixth fastest off the blocks. Among the eventual top three, Asafa Powell had the best start with a reaction time of 0.134 seconds, followed by Gay at 0.144. Bolt’s was 0.146. Reaction time is the speed with which one reacts to the starting gun. Anything less than 0.1 second is a false start. Bolt was slow only at the blocks; in every 20m he was on top.
According to the biome chanical analysis released by the IAAF, the Jamaican had solved his starting problem by covering the first 20m in 2.89 seconds, slightly ahead of Trinidad’s Richard Thompson who incidentally had the best reaction time of 0.119 seconds. From the 20- 40m mark, Bolt pulled clear in his inimitable style to register his fastest for the 60-80m section at 1.61 seconds. In just 33 royal strides, the Jamaican covered the 100m in 9.58 seconds with the tailwind measuring
0.2 metres/second.

Girl interrupted
Female smokers in the city feel that they are discriminated against by onlookers, while male smokers get away scot free
Smoking kills, and no one knows it better than a smoker. The warning is loud and clear on every packet of ciggies. Yet a whole host of people, fromwell-meaning acquaintances to complete strangers, seem to consider it their moral duty to tell a
woman to quit smoking. Health risks, patriotic rants and even the whole culture bhasha is doled out to the minority of female smokers while men continue to light up
unhindered. So why is this attitude reserved only for women? Girls who smoke are discriminated against, states Rakhi, a college student. “In my class, there are guys as well as girls who smoke. But it’s us girls who are in the lecturer’s bad books. He’s always saying things like, ‘We know what you all do outside.’ It’s so unfair because we are not breaking any rules here and our smoking habits have nothing to
with him or the college.” Others are subjected to worse. A young software professional recalls, “Just the other day, my friend and I were smoking an open space when this guy walked up to us. At first we thought he was asking for directions
because he started with, ‘Excuse me. I have just come back from the US’ but then he
went on to say, ‘I saw ladies doing all these things in America but why are you Indian girls smoking? You are the ones bringing India down!’We walked away
but he kept shouting curses at backs. And this, while there were guys smoking all around us.” Sometimes women take it upon themselves to lecture female
smokers. As student Goutami us, “Recently this lady approached me and started
telling me that it’s not ‘appropriate’ for a girl to smoke. Then she went on
and on about how I won’t be able to have babies!” Ironically, even some cigarette
shop owners look askance at female customers. “I always prefer to buy cigarettes on MG Road or Brigade Road because in Ulsoor where I live, people
keep staring and passing comments,” adds Goutami. But the worst critics are
male smokers who have an objection to women doing the
same, says Chetan Dash, a young professional. “These are the chauvinists.
They smoke, so they know why people smoke. Yet they refuse to accept women smokers.
I have female friends who smoke so I know what they go through. A lot of them were closet smokers for a long time,” he tells us. “Nobody bats an eyelid at a guy
smoking. It’s a bad habit but it has come to be accepted. But my female friends have faced many humiliating situations where their character has been questioned by
the likes of auto drivers, just because they smoke.” Seriously, smoke knows no gender,so why all this discrimination.Let’s leave it up to ourwomen to choose.

FLU: HOSPITALS SLOW TO GEAR UP
On a day on
which Swine Flu claimed
its first victim in the city,
26-year-old school teacher
Roopa, hospitals seemed
to be finally gearing up,
albeit still slowly, to fight
the pandemic, even as the
single government hospital
that has been doing the job
until now, the Rajiv Gandhi
Institute of Chest Diseases
(RGICD), is proving
to be woefully inadequately
equipped to deal with
the rising number of
infected people.
Relatives of Ghena
Abdul Kharim, a 35-yearold
Yemenese woman who
landed in the city two days
ago, shifted her from
RGICD to St. John’s Hospital
after they found that
the former did not have
facilities to treat critical
patients.
RGICD has put up 10 flu
screening counters and 18
beds in an unventilated
isolation ward, but does
not have an intensive care
unit (ICU).
Fortunately, though, at
least a dozen of the 36
other hospitals, including
private specialty ones,
identified by the government
for Swine Flu treatment,
are making their
own arrangements to
obtain test kits — the government
is not providing
the kits — and reserving
beds and isolation wards,
although they too are not
ready yet to take in critical
patients into their ICUs.
St. John’s Hospital, for
instance, began taking
throat swabs for testing on
Wednesday and is already
treating two critical cases,
although only one of them
is confirmed to be of
Swine Flu. It has reserved
three beds each for
children and adults affected
by H1N1, but none in
the ICU yet.
“We cannot reserve beds
for Swine Flu patients in
the ICU and deny the facilities
to other critical
patients,” the hospital’s
chief of medical services
Dr George D’Souza of St.
John’s Hospital explained.
